Bicheno 2023

Written by Eric

Thank you to Vanessa, Rachael and Bronwyn for the 2023 Bicheno Spinning Retreat on the East Coast of Tasmania.

I believe that the participants found it both relaxing and enriching.

People from the South travelled through sunshine until reaching the East Coast where windy weather prevailed. This gave opportunity to visit and see the blowhole in all its glory.

Some people travelling from the North and North-West visited Oatlands or Campbell Town, stopping at the lolly shop for necessities.

Spinners quickly settled in and, over the next two days, took part in several workshops.

Sue and Kylie managed the yarn store, enjoying a brisk trade.

‘Dr’ Desley attended to ailing spinning wheels, Geraldine coached people wanting to spin with a spindle. She had quite a collection for participants to try. Mary demonstrated and helped people to make Dorset Buttons, Rod taught a group to back splice and eye splice a length of rope, Ailsa conducted several workshops on felting and dyeing with excellent results and people with alpaca and washed fleece were able to use the picker to great effect and much floating fluff.

The rooms were comfortable and the meals were very good.

The owners, Wendy and Jamie and their son and daughter-in-law James and Elsie were excellent hosts, nothing was too much trouble.

The weather remained excellent allowing for walks along the beach or sitting in the sun.

Looking forward to Bicheno 2024
