Yarn Store Open Day with Give Spinning a Go Day
Yarn Store Manager Viv Crawford decided to open for an entire day, giving members a special opportunity to visit at leisure to see what was on offer. With a huge range of Coloured Tops, Silk, Alpaca, Cotton, Blends of Merino/Silk, Blends of Merino/Silk/Alpaca, beautiful Ringrove fleeces (now in limited supply), Weaving equipment, Felting equipment, Landscape and Gaywool Dyes and much much more, the Yarn Store is a veritable treasure trove. Every purchase had a raffle ticket to win a $50 bag of Yarn Store goodies. It was very successful, yarns, tops, blending boards, silks, badges - all flying out the door of a very busy and welcoming yarn store.
Give Spinning A Go Day was piggybacked to it, so that members could bring their wheel, enjoy a day at Battery Point meeting rooms and encourage people to come along and try a new craft.
After a great deal of advertising by Workshop Officer Cathy, word of mouth from members, Facebook exposure and Ravelry reminders, the day arrived, and new faces appeared in the crowded long room. We really have a great organization, because when members were asked to come along to give one-on-one help, about 12 spinners turned up with their wheels to lend that helping hand. Soon some were mastering the techniques, while others needed a little longer, or even a change of wheels. There were 11 new spinners, with some coming from as far away as The Peninsula and Triabunna. Two started fine spinning and seemed to be coping very well. Everyone showed a willingness to continue and proudly showed their spun yarn and assured us that they will be back for more help.
We thank all our helpers - spinners and yarn store staff - for giving up their time so freely to get new spinners into our enjoyable craft.Thank you to Kathy, Shirley & Maureen for their words and Valeri for the photos.
